Why Jim

Built from your industry outward.

A Jim Carroll keynote starts with the client, not the slide deck. The research, stories, trends and recommendations are shaped around the organization, the industry and the decisions leaders need to make now.

01

Deep research

Original trend work, current industry intelligence and focused client research before the event. The goal: understand the world the audience actually operates in.

02

Industry fluency

Healthcare is not manufacturing. Insurance is not agriculture. Utilities are not retail. Jim translates megatrends into the specific reality of the room.

03

Action over prediction

What matters is not a clever forecast. It is helping leaders understand what is changing, why it matters, where opportunity is emerging and what to do next.

Jim Carroll knows your industry before he walks onstage.

For more than three decades, futurist, author and keynote speaker Jim Carroll has helped leaders understand what comes next - and what to do about it. His work is built around a simple idea: the future is not generic, so a keynote about the future should not be generic either. Jim combines long-term foresight with intensive, current research into the client, the audience, the industry and the strategic issues in the room. The result is actionable foresight: insight that is researched, relevant and designed to move people toward better decisions.

That depth of customization has become one of the defining characteristics of his work. Jim has delivered more than 2,000 keynotes to over 2 million people worldwide, working across manufacturing, healthcare and life sciences, insurance and financial services, agriculture and food, energy and utilities, construction and infrastructure, retail and consumer products, technology, education and many other sectors. A major keynote can involve extensive stakeholder conversations, industry reports, research papers, market data, agenda analysis, current developments and sector-specific examples. The objective is not to sound as though an outside speaker visited the industry; it is to help the audience feel that someone understood their world well enough to show them where it is going.

Jim has brought that approach to organizations including NASA, The Walt Disney Company, Pfizer, Mercedes-Benz, The World Bank, Microsoft, the PGA of America, Johnson & Johnson, SAP and hundreds of others. His assignments have ranged from exploring the future of space and scientific discovery for NASA, to innovation and creativity for Disney, the future of healthcare and medical science for Pfizer, economic development and manufacturing for The World Bank, and accelerating industry transformation for leadership teams around the world.

Artificial intelligence is now a major part of that work, but Jim's approach is deliberately broader than a generic AI presentation. He connects AI to the actual operating reality of the client's sector: products, workflows, risk, skills, customer behaviour, business models, scientific acceleration, automation and competitive advantage. The same technology can produce radically different outcomes in insurance, agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing or energy, and his keynotes are built to reflect those differences.

Jim works equally well on major conference stages and in smaller CEO, CxO, board and senior leadership sessions. His style is fast, visual, energetic and practical, with an emphasis on translating complexity into a clear strategic story. He is frequently brought in when an organization needs to challenge old assumptions, understand the velocity of change, identify emerging opportunity, build leadership agility or make sense of the collision between AI, technology, science, workforce change and business disruption.

His authority on innovation and future trends has been recognized globally. BusinessWeek named him one of four leading sources for insight on creativity and innovation, and he was a featured expert on CNBC's prime-time series The Business of Innovation. His work has been covered by the BBC, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal and other international media. He is the author of numerous books, including Dancing in the Rain, Think Big, Start Small, Scale Fast and The Future Belongs to Those Who Are Fast.

Whether the audience is a room of senior executives, an industry association or thousands of people at a global conference, Jim's goal is consistent: make the future specific, make it understandable, and make it actionable.

For agents

How to sell Jim in 30 seconds.

The simplest positioning is also the strongest: Jim is the futurist to recommend when the client wants depth, customization and practical relevance — not a generic “ten trends” keynote.

If your client wants a futurist but doesn’t want a generic trends presentation, look at Jim Carroll. He combines more than three decades of foresight with intensive research into the client’s industry, then turns AI, disruption, workforce change and emerging opportunity into a keynote specifically about their future — and what they should do next.

Four signature keynotes

A simpler portfolio. Deeper descriptions.

Jim now works from four core keynote briefs. Each is deeply customized to the event, audience and industry, with the title providing the strategic starting point rather than a canned speech.

Future Trends

The Opportunity Horizon

What Changes Next in Your Industry, and What to Do About It

When the brief is: Our audience needs to understand what changes in our industry between now and 2030, and leave optimistic and ready to act.

In a world of relentless change, the greatest risk is not disruption itself - it is failing to see the next wave early enough. Jim cuts through the noise to identify the critical forces that will define the next decade of the client's industry: AI, economic volatility, supply-chain reinvention, genomics, workforce transformation and other sector-specific shifts. The keynote moves beyond trend spotting to a practical framework for identifying transformative opportunity, mitigating emerging risk and aligning strategy to what is coming next. Every version is rebuilt around the sector in the room, whether manufacturing, financial services, insurance, healthcare, agriculture, retail or another industry.

Artificial Intelligence

The AI Acceleration Advantage

What AI Changes in Your Industry, Your Workforce and Your Competitive Model

When the brief is: We need an AI keynote that is not another generic ChatGPT presentation.

This is not a keynote about AI in the abstract. It is about what AI changes in the client's business. Jim translates generative AI, machine intelligence and automation into a clear view of their impact on the industry's economics, operating model, workforce, customer experience and competitive structure. He also addresses the Acceleration Paradox: the future is increasingly won not by what a team knows now, but by how quickly it learns what it needs to know next. The result is a practical roadmap for moving from experimentation to real operating advantage, closing skills gaps and using people and technology together as an engine for growth.

Leadership

Lead at the Speed of Change

Think Big, Start Small, Scale Fast

When the brief is: Our leadership team understands change, but is not moving fast enough.

Speed has become a defining competitive advantage, yet many organizations remain slowed by uncertainty, legacy thinking and fear of disruption. Jim turns that challenge into a practical leadership playbook for building agile, resilient and high-performing teams. Drawing on lessons from organizations that moved decisively through difficult economic periods, he shows leaders how to make faster decisions, lead through ambiguity, unlock the creative potential inside their teams and use volatility as an opportunity to transform. The keynote is grounded in his Think Big, Start Small, Scale Fast framework and the leadership lessons of Dancing in the Rain.

Culture + Creativity

Being Unique

Why the Odd One Out Gets to the Future Faster

When the brief is: Our people need a reason - and permission - to think differently in the age of AI.

AI has given everyone access to many of the same tools, data and increasingly similar ideas. The strategic danger is sameness. In a fast-moving world, organizations that think like everyone else tend to arrive at the future at the same time as everyone else - which is often too late. This provocative keynote makes the case that differentiation, curiosity and constructive nonconformity are now hard-edged business advantages. Jim reframes uniqueness as an acceleration strategy: the quality AI cannot commoditize, and a powerful route to original thinking, stronger culture and competitive edge. The keynote is based on his 2026 book Being Unique.
